Rahul Shah is the Co-head of research at Equitymaster and the editor of three systems-based recommendation services - Microcap Millionaires, Double Income, and Exponential Profits.
"I'm a long time member with Equitymaster and recently have renewed my Microcap Millionaires service two months back.
I'm pleased to say that I have multiplied my money from Microcap Millionaires service.
Excellent and unbiased reports. Also good in terms of professionalism."
- Bimal Sud, Pune
Rahul is also the editor of Equitymaster's two free newsletters: Profit Hunter, India's leading stock market newsletter, read by over 300,000 subscribers, and Breakout Wealth Equitymaster's latest newsletter.
Rahul has 18 years of experience in financial markets as an analyst and editor.
After completing his bachelor's in chemical engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Engineering College, Aurangabad, he followed in the footsteps of his father, a successful businessman and investor, and earned an MBA in finance from the prestigious NMIMS University, Mumbai.
Rahul first joined Equitymaster as a Research Analyst, fresh out of university in 2003 but left shortly after to pursue his dream job with a Swiss investment bank.
However, he quickly became disillusioned working for the 'financial establishment'.
He learned first-hand the greedy stereotype of an investment banker is true and became uncomfortable working for a company that put profit above everything else.
In 2006, Rahul re-joined Equitymaster to serve honest, hardworking Indians like his father, who want to take control of their financial future - and not leave it in the hands of greedy money managers.
Following the investment principles of Benjamin Graham (the bestselling author of The Intelligent Investor) and Warren Buffet (considered the world's greatest living investor), Rahul has recommended some of the biggest winners in Equitymaster's history.
"I am associated with Equitymaster services for the last many years. Particularly, when Microcap Millionaires was announced, it evoked curiosity initially, waited and watched the performance for first two years and then felt compelled to join the scheme.
This system is based on the principles of Ben Graham. Also, the repeat back testing of the system at EM was further reassurance. System is very transparent, where one can decide oneself whether to and when to add more of the scrips, remaining within the prescribed limits. Perfect guidance is available how to proceed, what to do and what not.
It is worth while trying Microcap Millionaires and know what you are doing than to waste money
on many useless calls where one is sure to lose money."
- Jagdish Sanghvi, Mumbai
Rahul is bullish on the stock market in the long term. He believes the growth in corporate profits will be good enough to take the Sensex to 120,000 by 2025.
Rahul is known for taking bold calls when the market presents great investing opportunities.
He took a contrarian view on Tata Motors during the global financial crisis in 2008. He recommended the stock when no other analyst had a bullish view. The stock went on to be a multibagger.
Rahul has perfected the art of being a smart contrarian in the stock market. He knows when the time is right to aggressively buy stocks and when to play defensively.
Rahul's cautious stance before the market crash in 2020 was a great call. His recommendation to hold cash to the tune of 60%, protected subscribers from one of the worst declines in the history of the stock market.
Also his bullish view right after the 2020 market crash was vindicated when the market soared and subscribers got an opportunity to book handsome gains.
Rahul has developed a proven system based on solid value investing principles. He recommends keeping 25% of funds in cash and 25% in stocks at all times. Investing the remaining 50% is based on market conditions.
