Chennai Petroleum Plunges 7%; BSE OIL & GAS Index Down 2.6%

Chennai Petroleum share price has plunged 7% and is presently trading at Rs 702.6.

Meanwhile, the BSE OIL & GAS index is at 27,652.5 (down 2.6%).

Among the top losers in the BSE OIL & GAS index today are HPCL (down 5.3%) and ADANI TOTAL GAS (down 4.7%).

Over the last one year, Chennai Petroleum has moved up from Rs 520.6 to Rs 702.6, registering a gain of Rs 182.1 (up 35.0%).

On the other hand, the BSE OIL & GAS index has moved up from 18,236.6 to 27,652.5, registering a gain of 51.6% during the last 12 months.

The top gainers among the BSE OIL & GAS index stocks during this same period were HPCL (up 130.8%), BPCL (up 80.6%) and GAIL (up 69.9%).

What About the Benchmark Indices?

The BSE Sensex is at 79,343.6 (down 0.9%).

The top losers among the BSE Sensex today are Indusind Bank (down 19.4%) and M&M (down 4.6%). The most traded stocks in the BSE Sensex are Tata Steel and Indusind Bank.

In the meantime, NSE Nifty is at 24,135.5 (down 1.1%). Indusind Bank and M&M are among the top losers in NSE NIFTY.

Over the last 12 months, the BSE Sensex has moved up from 64,571.9 to 79,343.6, registering a gain of 14,771.7 points (up 22.9%).

Chennai Petroleum Financial Update...

Chennai Petroleum net profit fell 154.5% YoY to Rs -6,478 million for the quarter ended September 2024, compared to a profit of Rs 11,878 million a year ago. Net sales declined 27.9% to Rs 144,247 million during the period as against Rs 200,098 million in July-September 2023.

For the year ended March 2024, Chennai Petroleum reported 22.3% decrease in net profit to Rs 27,451 million compared to net profit of Rs 35,315 million during FY23. Revenue of the company fell 14.5% to Rs 534,989 million during FY24.

The current Price to earnings ratio of Chennai Petroleum, based on rolling 12 month earnings, stands at 15.7.
