Chennai Petroleum Gains 7%; BSE OIL & GAS Index Down 0.8%

Chennai Petroleum share price has zoomed 7% and is presently trading at Rs 989.0.

Meanwhile, the BSE OIL & GAS index is at 29,946.2 (down 0.8%).

Among the top gainers in the BSE OIL & GAS index today is Reliance Ind. (up 0.5%).

GAIL (down 2.4%) and BPCL (down 1.7%) are among the top losers today.

Over the last one year, Chennai Petroleum has moved up from Rs 527.9 to Rs 989.0, registering a gain of Rs 461.1 (up 87.3%).

On the other hand, the BSE OIL & GAS index has moved up from 19,000.3 to 29,946.2, registering a gain of 57.6% during the last 12 months.

The top gainers among the BSE OIL & GAS index stocks during this same period were HPCL (up 152.1%), BPCL (up 98.7%) and IOC (up 82.7%).

What About the Benchmark Indices?

The BSE Sensex is at 81,314.7 (down 0.2%).

The top losers among the BSE Sensex today are M&M (down 2.0%) and Maruti Suzuki (down 1.7%). The most traded stocks in the BSE Sensex are Tata Steel and SBI.

In the meantime, NSE Nifty is at 24,850.2 (down 0.5%). Bajaj Auto and Hero Motocorp are among the top losers in NSE NIFTY.

Over the last 12 months, the BSE Sensex has moved up from 66,166.9 to 81,314.7, registering a gain of 15,147.8 points (up 22.9%).

Chennai Petroleum Financial Update...

Chennai Petroleum net profit fell 37.5% YoY to Rs 3,426 million for the quarter ended June 2024, compared to a profit of Rs 5,484 million a year ago. Net sales rose 13.2% to Rs 203,612 million during the period as against Rs 179,859 million in April-June 2023.

For the year ended March 2024, Chennai Petroleum reported 22.3% decrease in net profit to Rs 27,451 million compared to net profit of Rs 35,315 million during FY23. Revenue of the company fell 14.5% to Rs 534,989 million during FY24.

The current Price to earnings ratio of Chennai Petroleum, based on rolling 12 month earnings, stands at 5.9.
