SAIL Plunges 4%; BSE METAL Index Down 3.2%

SAIL share price has plunged 4% and is presently trading at Rs 140.4.

Meanwhile, the BSE METAL index is at 30,865.1 (down 3.2%).

Among the top losers in the BSE METAL index today are Hindalco (down 4.1%) and Hindustan Zinc (down 3.5%).

Over the last one year, SAIL has moved up from Rs 95.6 to Rs 140.4, registering a gain of Rs 44.8 (up 46.8%).

On the other hand, the BSE METAL index has moved up from 22,347.9 to 30,865.1, registering a gain of 38.1% during the last 12 months.

The top gainers among the BSE METAL index stocks during this same period were Coal India (up 112.4%), NMDC (up 95.8%) and Hindustan Zinc (up 95.2%).

What About the Benchmark Indices?

The BSE Sensex is at 79,456.2 (down 1.9%).

The top losers among the BSE Sensex today are Tata Motors (down 4.2%) and JSW Steel (down 3.5%). The most traded stocks in the BSE Sensex are Tata Steel and Tata Motors.

In the meantime, NSE Nifty is at 24,271.4 (down 1.8%). Tata Motors and Hindalco are among the top losers in NSE NIFTY.

Over the last 12 months, the BSE Sensex has moved up from 66,459.3 to 79,456.2, registering a gain of 12,996.8 points (up 19.6%).

SAIL Financial Update...

SAIL net profit grew 10.7% YoY to Rs 9,802 million for the quarter ended March 2024, compared to a profit of Rs 8,852 million a year ago. Net sales declined 4.0% to Rs 279,585 million during the period as against Rs 291,307 million in January-March 2023.

For the year ended March 2023, SAIL reported 82.2% decrease in net profit to Rs 21,765 million compared to net profit of Rs 122,435 million during FY22. Revenue of the company grew 0.9% to Rs 1,044,477 million during FY23.

The current Price to earnings ratio of SAIL, based on rolling 12 month earnings, stands at 22.1.
