NHPC Plunges 4%; BSE POWER Index Down 2.5%

NHPC share price has plunged 4% and is presently trading at Rs 89.5.

Meanwhile, the BSE POWER index is at 8,144.2 (down 2.5%).

Among the top losers in the BSE POWER index today are Tata Power (down 4.3%) and KEC INTERNATIONAL (down 4.0%).

Over the last one year, NHPC has moved up from Rs 53.2 to Rs 89.5, registering a gain of Rs 36.3 (up 68.3%).

On the other hand, the BSE POWER index has moved up from 4,621.4 to 8,144.2, registering a gain of 76.2% during the last 12 months.

The top gainers among the BSE POWER index stocks during this same period were TORRENT POWER (up 147.1%), Siemens (up 101.4%) and BHEL (up 97.6%).

What About the Benchmark Indices?

The BSE Sensex is at 81,496.7 (down 0.2%).

The top losers among the BSE Sensex today are MUNDRA PORT & SEZ (down 3.8%) and NTPC (down 2.9%). The most traded stocks in the BSE Sensex are Tata Steel and Bharti Airtel.

In the meantime, NSE Nifty is at 24,975.2 (down 0.2%). MUNDRA PORT & SEZ and Coal India are among the top losers in NSE NIFTY.

Over the last 12 months, the BSE Sensex has moved up from 65,512.1 to 81,496.7, registering a gain of 15,984.6 points (up 24.4%).

NHPC Financial Update...

NHPC net profit fell 3.3% YoY to Rs 10,209 million for the quarter ended June 2024, compared to a profit of Rs 10,561 million a year ago. Net sales declined 2.3% to Rs 26,942 million during the period as against Rs 27,573 million in April-June 2023.

For the year ended March 2024, NHPC reported 5.5% decrease in net profit to Rs 40,280 million compared to net profit of Rs 42,608 million during FY23. Revenue of the company fell 9.2% to Rs 96,322 million during FY24.

The current Price to earnings ratio of NHPC, based on rolling 12 month earnings, stands at 25.0.
