GAIL Plunges 4%; BSE OIL & GAS Index Down 2.9%

GAIL share price has plunged 4% and is presently trading at Rs 219.8.

Meanwhile, the BSE OIL & GAS index is at 30,788.4 (down 2.9%).

Among the top losers in the BSE OIL & GAS index today are BPCL (down 5.0%) and HPCL (down 4.3%).

Over the last one year, GAIL has moved up from Rs 108.7 to Rs 219.8, registering a gain of Rs 111.1 (up 102.3%).

On the other hand, the BSE OIL & GAS index has moved up from 19,137.2 to 30,788.4, registering a gain of 60.9% during the last 12 months.

The top gainers among the BSE OIL & GAS index stocks during this same period were GAIL (up 102.3%), ONGC (up 92.0%) and HPCL (up 74.3%).

What About the Benchmark Indices?

The BSE Sensex is at 80,599.1 (down 0.9%).

The top losers among the BSE Sensex today are Tata Steel (down 5.2%) and JSW Steel (down 4.5%). The most traded stocks in the BSE Sensex are Tata Steel and NTPC.

In the meantime, NSE Nifty is at 24,526.6 (down 1.1%). Tata Steel and BPCL are among the top losers in NSE NIFTY.

Over the last 12 months, the BSE Sensex has moved up from 66,589.9 to 80,599.1, registering a gain of 14,009.2 points (up 21.0%).

GAIL Financial Update...

GAIL net profit grew 546.9% YoY to Rs 20,600 million for the quarter ended March 2024, compared to a profit of Rs 3,184 million a year ago. Net sales declined 1.3% to Rs 328,332 million during the period as against Rs 332,641 million in January-March 2023.

For the year ended March 2023, GAIL reported 54.5% decrease in net profit to Rs 55,959 million compared to net profit of Rs 123,036 million during FY22. Revenue of the company grew 57.0% to Rs 1,454,616 million during FY23.

The current Price to earnings ratio of GAIL, based on rolling 12 month earnings, stands at 17.6.
