Chennai Petroleum Plunges 4%; BSE OIL & GAS Index Down 0.6%

Chennai Petroleum share price has plunged 4% and is presently trading at Rs 660.2.

Meanwhile, the BSE OIL & GAS index is at 27,468.3 (down 0.6%).

Among the top losers in the BSE OIL & GAS index today are HPCL (down 1.3%) and BPCL (down 0.9%).

Indraprastha Gas (up 0.8%) and ADANI TOTAL GAS (up 0.1%) are among the top gainers today.

Over the last one year, Chennai Petroleum has moved up from Rs 582.6 to Rs 660.2, registering a gain of Rs 77.6 (up 13.3%).

On the other hand, the BSE OIL & GAS index has moved up from 18,265.6 to 27,468.3, registering a gain of 50.4% during the last 12 months.

The top gainers among the BSE OIL & GAS index stocks during this same period were HPCL (up 133.8%), BPCL (up 77.9%) and GAIL (up 71.5%).

What About the Benchmark Indices?

The BSE Sensex is at 80,149.2 (down 0.3%).

The top losers among the BSE Sensex today are Sun Pharma (down 2.0%) and Bajaj Finserv (down 1.1%). The most traded stocks in the BSE Sensex are Power Grid Corp. and Tata Motors.

In the meantime, NSE Nifty is at 24,387.2 (down 0.3%). Cipla and Dr. Reddys are among the top losers in NSE NIFTY.

Over the last 12 months, the BSE Sensex has moved up from 64,112.7 to 80,149.2, registering a gain of 16,036.6 points (up 25.0%).

Chennai Petroleum Financial Update...

Chennai Petroleum net profit fell 154.5% YoY to Rs -6,478 million for the quarter ended September 2024, compared to a profit of Rs 11,878 million a year ago. Net sales declined 27.9% to Rs 144,247 million during the period as against Rs 200,098 million in July-September 2023.

For the year ended March 2024, Chennai Petroleum reported 22.3% decrease in net profit to Rs 27,451 million compared to net profit of Rs 35,315 million during FY23. Revenue of the company fell 14.5% to Rs 534,989 million during FY24.

The current Price to earnings ratio of Chennai Petroleum, based on rolling 12 month earnings, stands at 14.7.
