Chennai Petroleum Gains 9%; BSE OIL & GAS Index Up 0.3%

Chennai Petroleum share price has zoomed 9% and is presently trading at Rs 1,187.8.

Meanwhile, the BSE OIL & GAS index is at 31,835.1 (up 0.3%).

Among the top gainers in the BSE OIL & GAS index today are BPCL (up 1.6%) and HPCL (up 1.4%).

GAIL (down 0.4%) and Reliance Ind. (down 0.1%) are among the top losers today.

Over the last one year, Chennai Petroleum has moved up from Rs 442.8 to Rs 1,187.8, registering a gain of Rs 745.0 (up 168.2%).

On the other hand, the BSE OIL & GAS index has moved up from 19,189.2 to 31,835.1, registering a gain of 65.9% during the last 12 months.

The top gainers among the BSE OIL & GAS index stocks during this same period were GAIL (up 113.5%), ONGC (up 93.7%) and HPCL (up 81.9%).

What About the Benchmark Indices?

The BSE Sensex is at 80,777.1 (up 0.1%).

The top gainers among the BSE Sensex today are Bharti Airtel (up 1.2%) and Maruti Suzuki (up 1.1%). The most traded stocks in the BSE Sensex are Tata Steel and NTPC.

In the meantime, NSE Nifty is at 24,622.5 (up 0.2%). BPCL and HDFC LIFE INSURANCE are among the top gainers in NSE NIFTY.

Over the last 12 months, the BSE Sensex has moved up from 65,393.9 to 80,777.1, registering a gain of 15,383.2 points (up 23.5%).

Chennai Petroleum Financial Update...

Chennai Petroleum net profit fell 39.0% YoY to Rs 6,124 million for the quarter ended March 2024, compared to a profit of Rs 10,042 million a year ago. Net sales declined 2.5% to Rs 208,230 million during the period as against Rs 213,501 million in January-March 2023.

For the year ended March 2024, Chennai Petroleum reported 23.2% decrease in net profit to Rs 27,113 million compared to net profit of Rs 35,315 million during FY23. Revenue of the company fell 14.5% to Rs 534,986 million during FY24.

The current Price to earnings ratio of Chennai Petroleum, based on rolling 12 month earnings, stands at 6.5.
