Asian share markets opened higher today as Japan and mainland China took centre stage for traders, with most other Asia-Pacific markets closed for holidays.
The Nikkei rose by 0.6% while the Hang Seng was down by 0.4%. The Shanghai Composite is trading higher by 0.7%.
In US markets, the S&P 500 closed higher on Friday, in a light trading day ahead of a long weekend, as investors assessed inflation data against rate hike and recession fears while energy shares jumped on higher oil prices.
The Dow Jones ended higher by 0.5% while the tech heavy Nasdaq Composite ended higher by 0.2%

Back home, Indian share markets are trading on a strong note following the trend on SGX Nifty.
Benchmark indices extended gains today tracking firm global cues.
At present, the BSE Sensex is trading higher by 397 points. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty is trading higher by 114 points.
SBI, IndusInd Bank and Tata Steel are among the top gainers today. Dr Reddy's Labs, Sun Pharma, and Nestle are among the top losers today.
Broader markets are trading on a negative note. The BSE Mid Cap index is trading higher by 1.4% and the BSE Small Cap index is trading higher by 2.2%.
Sectoral indices are trading on a positive note with the exception of healthcare sector. Stocks in the power sector, auto sector, and metal sector witness buying.
The rupee is trading at 82.8 against the US dollar.
In the commodity markets, gold prices trade higher by Rs 141 at Rs 54,715 per 10 grams.
Meanwhile, silver prices are trading lower by 0.1 % at Rs 69,100 per 1 kg.

Tata Motors announced that Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has signed a definitive agreement with its fully owned subsidiary, TML CV Mobility Solutions for operation of 1,500 electric buses in the city of New Delhi.
As part of the agreement, TML CV Mobility Solutions will supply, operate and maintain 1,500 units of 12-metre low-floor air-conditioned electric buses for a period 12 years.

New Delhi Television (NDTV) founders Prannoy Roy and his wife Radhika Roy on Friday said that they have decided to transfer most of their shares in the company to billionaire Gautam Adani.
Adani Group will own 65% stake in the company post the transfer.
This follows the Adani Group becoming the single largest shareholder in NDTV after first buying out a firm backed by the founders and then acquiring more shares from the open market.
Adani, the richest Asian and the founder chairman of Adani group, held over 37% in NDTV after an open offer and an earlier acquisition of a company owned by the founders.
Radhika and Prannoy Roy will retain a combined 5% stake in NDTV post the transfer.
Last month, NDTV announced the resignation of Roys from the RRPR board but they continued on the NDTV board.
IT company Wipro on Friday said it has bought a minority stake of less than 20% on a fully diluted basis in US-based Kibsi for US $1.5 million (about Rs 124.2 million).
In an exchange filing, Wipro said this is a minority strategic investment, and the company wanted a business partnership in the domain of computer vision applications. The transaction was completed on 23 December 2022.
Kibsi Inc was incorporated in July 2021 in Delaware, US. It is a developer of an end-to-end fully integrated environment designed for building computer vision applications. The company's cloud-native, low-code platform democratises computer vision, enabling customers to focus on their business needs instead of complexity.
Recently, Wipro Gallagher Solutions, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wipro, has sold its shareholding in Wipro Opus Risk Solutions.
With this transaction, Wipro Gallagher has divested only the non-core mortgage due diligence business, while retaining the core mortgage business with itself through other subsidiaries.
