Bajaj Auto leads EV Sales

Homegrown automotive manufacturing company Bajaj Auto has claimed the second position in electric two-wheeler retail sales in September 2024, according to industry sources.

Bajaj's Chetak electric scooter now holds a 21.4% market share, edging closer to Ola Electric's 27.6%.

Retail sales data from the Vahan portal for the period from September 1 to 29 reveals that Ola Electric sold 22,821 units, while Bajaj Auto sold 17,507 units, surpassing TVS Motor Company, which sold 16,351 units.

This marks the first time Bajaj has overtaken TVS in monthly sales, solidifying its position as a key player in the electric two-wheeler market.

Ola Electric, once the dominant force in the sector, has seen its market share shrink significantly.

In September 2023, the company controlled 47% of the market but has since fallen to just over a quarter in September 2024.

The company's year-on-year sales dropped by nearly a third, reflecting growing competition and challenges in customer service.

Ola's September 2024 sales were also lower compared to August 2024, when it sold over 27,000 units.

Bajaj Auto's rise to the second spot can be attributed to its competitive pricing strategy and revised distribution model.

Tata Power's US$ 14.3 Billion Investment Plan

Tata Power on Monday said it has inked an initial pact with the Rajasthan government for investment of Rs 1.2 trillion (tn), including Rs 750 bn in green energy, in the state's power sector.

The 10-year plan aims to support Rajasthan's transformation into a power surplus state, providing a 24/7 clean, affordable, and reliable power supply.

Investments will be made in renewable energy projects and manufacturing, transmission, distribution, nuclear power, rooftop installations, and EV charging.

The MoU was signed during the 'Rising Rajasthan' Investor Meet in New Delhi on Monday.

An amount of Rs 200 bn will be invested in the state transmission and distribution area to modernize the grid infrastructure, reduce energy losses, and improve power quality across the state.

Besides, Rs 100 bn will be invested in transmission systems exploring opportunities to develop nuclear power plants.

Nearly Rs 750 bn will be for renewable energy projects.

An investment of Rs 10 bn has been earmarked for setting up 1 lakh EV charging points across Rajasthan.

Rooftop solar power for 10 lakh households will support the PM Surya Ghar Yojana.

The MoU will have a transformative socio-economic impact, creating over 28,000 direct jobs in the state.

Tata Power is primarily involved in the business of power generation, transmission and distribution.

In the first half of the financial year 2024, the company generated 54% of revenue from distribution, 32% from thermal, coal and hydro segment, 14% from transmission.

Blue Dart Express Increases Shipment Prices

Courier services provider Blue Dart Express on Monday said it will increase the prices of its shipments between 9-12% from 1 January 2025.

The pricing adjustments for 2025, which include inflationary adjustments and cost rationalisation, are designed to partly cover spiralling long-term costs, such as rising input costs to operations, including airline operating costs and infrastructure costs, among others.

Blue Dart will implement the General Price Increase (GPI) from January 1.

The average price increase will be in the range of 9 to 12%, depending on product variabilities and the shipping profile.

This essential decision ensures the continued provision of quality service while fostering sustainable ecosystem collaboration.
