Among the buzzing stocks today is Lupin.

Pharmaceutical major Lupin is foraying into the diagnostics space to leverage its 'doctor-connect' to tap a sector that is witnessing double-digit growth.

A formal launch is expected next month.

Lupin Diagnostics will be a part of Lupin Healthcare, a 100% subsidiary of Lupin. The company is in the process of recruiting the team, finalising franchise partners, and setting up a 45,000 square feet laboratory in Navi Mumbai.

It is also looking for franchise partners with an investment of Rs 200,000-500,000 without any security deposit.

It is following a hub-and-spoke model where all processing labs are operated by Lupin Healthcare and are surrounded by collection centres.

So far, pharma companies are not present in the diagnostics space, despite their inherent advantage. However, the entry of Lupin marks a new trend of pharma firms diversifying into diagnostics.

How this pans out remains to be seen. Meanwhile, stay tuned for more updates from this space.

At the time of writing, Lupin shares were trading up by 1% on the BSE.
