Asian markets traded higher on Thursday, with the Chinese markets extending their winning streak for the fifth straight session.

Japan's Nikkei 225 rallied 1.7%, while the Topix gained 1.2%. South Korea's Kospi surged 1.8%, and the Kosdaq rose 1.5%

US stock market ended mixed on Wednesday with the blue-chip Dow Jones slipping after hitting record highs, snapping four-day gaining streak.

At present, the BSE Sensex is trading 182 points higher and NSE Nifty is trading 41 points higher.

Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Nestle among the top gainers today.

Broader markets are trading on positive. The BSE Midcap index is trading 0.3% lower and the BSE Smallcap index is trading 0.2% lower.

Sectoral indices are trading mixed today with stocks in realty sector and IT sector witnessing most buying. Meanwhile stocks in power and metal sector are witnessing selling pressure.

The rupee is trading at Rs 83.68 against the US dollar.

In commodity markets, gold prices are trading flat at Rs 75,325 per 10 grams today.

Vedanta to Consider Fourth Interim Dividend

Mining major Vedanta Ltd said on 25 September that its board will meet on 8 October to consider the fourth interim dividend for FY25.

The record date for the dividend, if declared, has been fixed as 16 October.

Earlier this month, Anil Agarwal-led Vedanta approved a third dividend of Rs 20 per share for the current financial year, taking the total dividend payout so far for FY25 to Rs 134.7 bn.

On 26 July, the board approved a second interim dividend of Rs 4 per equity share, amounting to Rs 15.6 bn. In May, a first interim dividend of Rs 11 per equity share, totalling Rs 40.9 bn was approved.

This takes the total dividend for 2024-25 so far to Rs 134.7 bn.

Similarly, during 2023-24, Vedanta had declared a total interim dividend of Rs 29.5 per share, amounting to Rs 109.7 bn for shareholders.

The steady flow of dividends and appreciation in capital for investors has helped in generating a five-year total shareholding return and dividend yield of 276% and 65%, respectively, as per Vedanta's investor presentation.

SpiceJet Stake Sell

Societe Generale executed block deals involving shares of SpiceJet on Wednesday, selling shares worth Rs 470 m.

The French financial services giant offloaded over 83.56 lakh shares valued at Rs 525 m while purchasing 9.4 lakh shares for Rs 58.7 m.

Overall, Societe Generale emerged as a net seller, divesting 7.4 m shares.

The selling price was Rs 62.9 per share, while the buying price stood slightly lower at Rs 62.4 per share.

SBI's Rs 1 Trillion Milestone

State Bank of India (SBI) is aiming to become the first Indian financial firm to cross a milestone of Rs 1 trillion (tn) net profit in the next 3-5 years, the chairman of the country's largest lender CS Setty has said.

SBI recorded a standalone net profit of Rs 610.8 bn in FY24, registering a growth of 21.6%.

With regard to corporate loan demand, Setty said, the bank has already got a Rs 4 lakh crore strong credit pipeline from India Inc and capital expenditure by the private sector is expected to pick up in the second half of the fiscal year.

As far as public spending is concerned, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Budget proposed to raise the capital expenditure target by 11.1% to record Rs 11.1 tn for 2024-25. This is 3.4% of the country's GDP.

Setty said some of the corporates had undertaken brownfield expansion for which the capital expenditure was funded by their own cash accruals and cash balances that they had.

Stressing that the private capital expenditure will definitely pick up during the year, he said, there is renewed government expenditure after the first quarter slowdown due to general elections.

Adani Green Energy's Stake Buy

Promoter entities Hibiscus Trade and Investment and Ardour Investment Holding have collectively acquired a 2.96% equity stake in Adani Green Energy Ltd on Wednesday.

Hibiscus Trade and Investment purchased 20.1 million shares, representing a 1.27% equity stake, between 30 July and 18 September 2024. Additionally, Ardour Investment Holding acquired 26.7 million shares, equating to a 1.69% equity stake, between September 19 and 23, 2024.

Adani Green Energy reported a standalone profit after tax (PAT) or net profit of Rs 4.5 bn for the quarter, a 38% jump from Rs 3.2 bn in the year-ago period.

Adani Green's revenue stood at Rs 28.3 bn, up 31% from Rs 21.6 bn in the corresponding period in the previous fiscal.

The energy sales reported a 22% year-on-year uptick. The Adani Group company operationalised a wind power capacity of 250 MW at Khavda during the period.
