SGX Nifty Up 18 Points; Indicates Flat Opening for Indian Stock Markets

The SGX Nifty opened on a flat note today.

At 8:00 am, it was trading up by 18 points, or 0.1% higher at 15,832 levels.

Trends on SGX Nifty indicate a flat opening for Indian stock markets.

Asian stock markets are trading on a mixed note today.

The Hang Seng and the Shanghai Composite is down by 0.8% and 0.3%, respectively.

Japan's stock market is shut for a holiday today.

In US stock markets, Wall Street indices closed higher after a mixed trading session as investors digested negative economic data reflecting the country's struggle to move past the Covid-19 pandemic, while yields on safe-haven assets such as US Treasuries slipped.

Yields on US Treasuries eased on Thursday after an auction of US$16 bn in 10-year TIPS was bid at a record low.

All three major US stock indexes ended in the green and within 1% of record closing highs, thanks in part to Big Tech.

The Dow and S&P 500 fell earlier in the day on the number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 25.4 points, or 0.1%, while the Nasdaq Composite added 52.6 points, or 0.4%, to close at 14,684.6.

The S&P 500 gained 8.8 points, or 0.2%, to end the day at 4,367.5.

US stock futures are trading on a positive note today with Dow Futures up by 66 points.

Gold prices steadied on Friday after hitting a more than one-week low in the previous session, as a retreat in US bond yields and weak economic data countered a stronger dollar.

Crude oil prices rose about US$1.5 a barrel on Thursday, extending gains made in the previous three sessions on expectations of tighter supplies through 2021 as economies recover from the coronavirus crisis.

Back home, Bajaj Auto and HUL will be among the top buzzing stocks today.
