5 Takeaways from Bharti Airtels Q4 Results

Telecom major Bharti Airtel today reported its March 2022 quarterly earnings.

In the past one year, the company has been raising a lot of money to fund its digital initiatives. This includes developing home broadband, data centres, cloud adoption, etc. as it prepares to launch 5G in India.

In January 2022, it was announced that Airtel will get an investment of up to US$1 bn from Alphabet Inc's Google.

So investors were keen to know what it has to report on the 5G developments and other initiatives.

Here are the five key takeaways from Airtel's Q4 results.

  • Bharti Airtel's consolidated net profit rose to Rs 20.1 bn. This is a sharp jump of 164.5% when compared with Rs 7.6 bn net profit reported in the same quarter last year.
  • Airtel's consolidated revenues rose 22% to Rs 315 bn as compared to revenues of Rs 257.5 bn registered in the year-ago quarter. Sequentially, revenue rose 5.5%.
  • Airtel's customer base in India increased by 1% sequentially and 2.7% YoY to 360 m. The company managed to increase its subscriber base in Africa by 2% sequentially and 8.7% if compared YoY.
  • For full year (fiscal 2022), Bharti Airtel's profit jumped to Rs 42.6 bn from a loss of Rs 150.8 bn achieved in fiscal 2021.

    Revenues for the same period jumped 16% to Rs 1,165.5 bn.
  • The company's board recommended a dividend of Rs 3 per fully paid-up equity share of face value Rs 5 each and Rs 0.75 per partly paid-up equity share of face value Rs 5 each for fiscal 2022.

Bharti Airtel share price ended the day 2.1% higher on the BSE at Rs 707.55.

Over the past one year, shares of Airtel have gained 28% while the YoY performance has been dismal (up 3%).
